Touching Chinese Tale of the Green Snake

Green Snake” 青蛇 is a 2011 Chinese film produced by Di Jiu Cheng Shi (The Ninth City 第九城市) to celebrate Chinese New Year on February 3rd. The film was released on January 26th, starring famous Chinese actress Zhu Hong 朱虹 and hot Chinese model Cynthia Gang Xiao Xi 刚小希. In this touching Chinese tale, Green Snake’s 青蛇 first encounter with Buddhist monk Fa Hai 法海 ambushed the seeds of gratitude, resentment, affection and hostility. After centuries of training, Green Snake has finally taken human form with the help of sister and master White Snake 白蛇. Green Snake is able to taste and experience the love, freedom and wisdom that is supposedly only available to humans.

Upon the West Lake, Green Snake met Buddhist monk Fa Hai by chance again. However, isn’t a monk’s duty supposed to be banishing demons from the human world? Centuries of having the old dream, Green Snake just can’t help falling deeper and deeper for Fa Hai. Love is like poison, deep-rooted inside one’s heart.

Fa Hai has probably fallen in love with Green Snake as well, but deep down he has to remind himself that he is a monk and his duty is to eliminate demons. When Green Snake fails to kill enemy but lover Fa Hai, sister White Snake strikes her sword. Fa Hai’s fury towards White Snake turns into flood and catastrophe. Green Snake has to side with sister and master White Snake in the battle with Fa Hai.

In a wild battle between monks and demons, Green Snake got injured, dying with sorrow and grief. Upon Green Snake’s incarnation, Buddhist monk Fa Hai sadly leaves. Sister White Snake cries and sighs, hoping Green Snake will find her true love in her next life.

    Is this an actual movie or were these art pieces done to portray the story? I love Legend of the White Snake and if this is a real movie, I would love to be able to see it.
