Top 10 Cleanest Cities in Asia

We have ranked the top 10 cleanest cities in Asia, with three spots being Japanese cities. Whilst China has some of the most polluted cities, it also has some of the best cities for living and travelling in Asia.

Here is a list of the top ten cleanest cities in Asia along with more information.

2. Singapore 新加坡

No. 1. Katsuyama, Japan 日本勝山市

Located in Fukui Prefecture 福井県, Japan, Katsuyama is one of the best ranking cities around the world. With an estimated population of 27,420, Katsuyama is also known for its discovery of dinosaur fossils.

2. Singapore 新加坡

Singapore, capital of the island country Republic of Singapore 新加坡共和国, is well-known for its good quality of life and its fast-growing economy. With a diverse population of close to five million people, Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinctive seasons.

3. Tokyo, Japan 日本東京

As one of the biggest cities with the largest metropolitan economy in the world, Tokyo is a perfect example of an urban heat island. With a population of around 13 million in the metropolitan area, Tokyo has been cited as a “convincing example of the relationship between urban growth and climate.

4. Kyoto, Japan 日本京都

Capital of Kyoto Prefecture 京都府 and having a population close to 1.5 million, Kyoto is noted for its key industry information technology. Home to the headquarters of Nintendo, Kyocera as well as many other corporations, Kyoto is one of the best preserved cities in Japan and has some of the best Japanese gardens and cuisine.

5. Hong Kong 香港

Situated on China’s south coast and renowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour, Hong Kong has a population of seven million people and is frequently described as a place where “East meets West”. Despite its reputation of being intensely urbanized and densely populated, Hong Kong has tried to promote a green environment for its citizens.

6. Seoul, South Korea 한국서울

A megacity with a population of over 12 million, Seoul is considered to be a leading global city ranking among the top ten most economically powerful cities in the world by Forbes. Home to major multinational conglomerates such as Samsung and LG, Seoul generates 21 percent of the country’s GDP even though it accounts for only 0.6 percent of its land area.

7. Busan, South Korea 한국부산

Busan is South Korea’s second largest metropolis after Seoul and has a population of around 3.6 million. Renowned as one of the world’s largest ports, Busan also has the world’s largest department store, the Shinsegae Centum City. In recent years, Busan is pursuing a large number of multi-skyscraper projects, including the 110-floor Busan Lotte World Tower, which is slated to become the world’s third tallest building in 2013 after Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Taipei 101 in Taipei.

8. Xiamen, China 中国厦门

Xiamen was recently voted China’s cleanest city and has been ranked as China’s second most suitable city for living after Dalian, according to China Daily. Also known as Amoy, Xiamen is a coastal city administered under Fujian Province 福建省 in Southeastern China. The city and the surrounding countryside are famous for being an ancestral home to overseas Chinese.

9. Dalian, China 中国大连

As the southernmost city of Northeast China and China’s northernmost seaport, Dalian has been rated China’s most suitable city for living. Situated in Liaoning Province 辽宁省 and widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the country, Dalian is often compared with American cities San Francisco and Seattle.

10. Zhuhai, China 中国珠海

Located in the Pearl River Delta on the southern coast of Guangdong Province 广东省, Zhuhai is one of China’s premier tourist destinations, being called the Chinese Riviera. Zhuhai has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot and humid summers and short, mild and dry winters. Zhuhai is the only city on the western Pearl River Delta with natural deep-water ports.

    There’s no way Hong Kong should be on the list. It’s a fun city but dirty for the most part.
    Kyoto is cleaner than Tokyo too. jus sayin

      Compared to the rest of Asia, Hong Kong is clean and tidy. :P Even then When I went to Hong Kong, I thought it was quite clean, especially central. Hong Kong was also voted one of the best cities in Asia.

    Hong Kong is very clean.
    I always visit the city and is spotless! You will see cleaners everywhere and even sweeping leaves off the floor! Amazing!!
