Girl’s Day – Paralyze the Internet

With already so many girl groups out there in South Korea – Kara, 2NE1, T-ara and 4minute – to name but a few, a new girl group called Girl’s Day ( 걸스데이 ) just unleashed their debut “Tilt My Head” last week. But before revealing their five members, their pre-debut video had become a hot topic for Korean bloggers.

In the video, the five members of Girl’s Day Ji Sun, Min Ah, Ji Hae, So Jin and Ji In showed off their bodies confidently with an amazing dance performance near Hongik University in Seoul. With a dynamic and sexy dance style, Girl’s Day drew crowds of onlookers to watch them. Here is the video:

The very first day after unveiling it on their official blog, the video received more than 300,000 views which caused the site to stop working for around an hour. Furthermore, individual members of Girl’s Day received more than 20,000 comments on their own blogs. Everyone seemed to have high expectation on this new Korean girl group. So far this video gets more than five thousand hits a day.

Just ahead of their debut on 9th July, DreamTea Entertainment released a teaser which showed the five members – almost indistinguishable from one another – working like robot dolls at a production line and packing dolls. Now the full MV is out, let’s have a look at it:

According to a lot of the netizens’ response, the song did not meet their expectation. The video did not bring the girls’ dance skills into full play either. Moreover, netizens were let down by their debut stage, which took place on Music Bank soon afterwards. Netizens seemed harsh on them; some wrote:

“I’m really tilting my head myself.”
“I guess my hopes were too high because this was a big disappointment.”
“They won’t go anywhere with that.”

Here is the MR removed version of their debut stage:

Even though the girls were out of tune at parts and breathless towards the end, they managed to smile and danced with all they had. Without doubt, they need more practice; but at the same time, they need support.
